This may have been posted before, and if so I apologise, but I certainly have not seen this one mentioned myself, and anyways, many I am sure will not be aware of it. http://www.winatstarwood.com ------------------ ~ Glen ~See also: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum74/HTML/000791...... - 2008-12-18

» Hotels in Paris

3 of us may be traveling to Paris for one week in March - 2 adults and 1 (10 year old) child. Understandably, the two adults would like some privacy once in a while. Any recommendations for a nice one bedroom hotel, or apartment, where the bedroom is separated from the "living room" with a door and the living room has a pullout sofa or can have an extra bed added? Something approaching a reasonable rate (I know this is subjective) would be nice too. Thank you.If staying in a hotel, this sounds suspiciously like a full suite, uncommon in 'reasonable' hotels... Some Citadines Apart'hotels have apartments which usually consist of two rooms with a partition. Though far from luxurious, they could be convenient for a week's stay as you ...... - 2008-12-18

Hi everybody, after spending some time in OZ and before going back to Europe, I will spend 10 days on the wonderful Cook Islands at the beginning of December (20k UA miles for SYD-AKL-RAR-AKL-SYD, I just couldn't resist). Because of my stay in OZ I will have quite a lot of baggage to take with me to the Cooks, probably around 25 to 30kg. Does anybody know how tight NZ handle their 20kg limit? I received an Access file as an attachment in an email (a known good file). However, to "protect me," Outlook has blocked this "unsafe attachment." The attachment seems to be there but Outlook won't let me see it. I've had this happen before when certain file types are received as attachments (such as .exe files). I have looked all over in the configuration settings but I don't see how to turn off this security feature. Can anyone tell me how to get Outlook to unblock these files? » Important Health & Safety Information

This thread is the result of a comment made in another conversation. Over the years I have come to realise that although a great many people enjoy processing and printing their films they are completely unaware of the risks some of the chemicals used in the darkroom can pose to health. I am not attempting to put people off using photographic processes, or to frighten them. But it is important to treat photographic chemicals with care and respect and not take unnecessary risks. Observing safe practice is essential for those who teach or run classes of any kind. Nobody likes a law suit except a lawyer. The purpose of this thread, then, is to provide advice, information and links to other relevant sites concerning known health risks po...... - 2008-12-18

» OT: Watch out when booking through UA's US vs. Cdn websites.

I just booked SEA-SFO-NGO-SFO-SEA on UA for US$478.98 all-in (about C$600). UA's Cdn website quoted a much higher price (over C$800). To book on the US website you need a CC with a US billing address, I ended up booking over the phone using their automated system - which failed to function properly and put me through to an agent ($5 booking fee was waived). I have noticed this price anomaly before in prior years. Could not get the fare on travelocity or expedia. First trip to Japan, which I had been planning prior to UA's "Introducing Nagoya" sale. I then tried to book a family trip to LHR on UA's websites - fares were about the same but no child discounts given. Ended up booking on travelocity to get the child discount....... - 2008-12-18

» Calaculate cost per mile

I'm in need of math assistance here. What's the best way to calculate the cost of a flight per mile? Do you do it with bonus miles or not? How do I do it on my calculator? ------------------ Come fly with me!When I calculate my trips I include all miles earned. Sometimes the number is a little misleading b/c a tiered bonus may be included, but I include it nonetheless. A january SEA-PHL-FRA trip cost me about $360. I flew around 12,700 miles, earned a 100% bonus, an online booking bonus and a separate bonus bringing my total to around 31,000. Since you are looking for the "cost per mile" I would take how much I paid and divide it by total miles earned. You will get a small (hopefully) number which is how much you paid per mile. When I po...... - 2008-12-18

Hi, My husband and I have been once to NZ. We want to return Oct, 2008. We each have enough miles on United to purchase business class tickets which we'd love to do. I have been on the phone with United and Air NZ to sort this out with no success. Air NZ needs to release the business class tickets for award use and no one knows when that will happen. I was hoping that following the booking time of 330 days before travel date would help. Any advice on how to approach this one or strategy. » AE Changed My Flights. Help!

Booked LHR/YUL rt several months ago with D confirmed YHZ/YUL (Nothing direct was available.) and was assured of priority on LHR/YHZ and YUL/LHR because of the confirmed D space YHZ/YUL. Thie morning an email tells me no D space for me, since the aircraft is now CRJ between YHZ & YUL. Not acceptable on a couple of levels. First, I've "paid" miles for D space. Second, CRJ is not my first choice for a flight at that time of year (weather) and third, the arrival in YUL is later than I require. There doesn't appear to be any space (D or W) on other flights for those dates. I've tried all other routings I could think of. » AC No Longer Able to Enforce One Hour Checkin

According to the G&M this morning the feds have rapped AC for refusing two lads from catching their flights from Montreal to Edmonton. They arrived at check-on about 50 minutes before flight departure. The feds have forced AC to pay about $1,100 to cover Westjet fares! Ha!!!Already two threads on this one. The point of your title is not quite true either as AC must be more clear in its time limits to be able to enforce them. The decision related to the fact that at that time, AC's guidelines were not stated to be explicit enough and thus open to the challenge. New cutoffs with forfeiture of ticket value when not met, now provides the ability for AC to enforce its check-in times. This was not the case when this was brought to the CT...... - 2008-12-18

Has anybody any experience with that new editor ? http://www.mpsoftware.dk/phpdesigner.php (http://) Bye now, Flapperke,I've been using it here and there, not bad.FP is better for HTML editing, PHP Designer is better for PHP editing, so when you're mashing the two together in a single document (such as a template file) you're pretty much hosed either way. I would like to see how a storm system progresses say over a 12 to 24 hr period. Is this possible? Thanks DennisThe radar page at Weather Underground http://www.weatherunderground.com/ has an option to view a 24 hour radar loop. i think it gives you one radar image per hour. The radar page at NCAR http://www.rap.ucar.edu/weather/radar/ has a 24 hour archive, but I doubt you'd be able to view the full 24 hours at once as it loads in imagery from every volume scan.I can provide a free year subscription to Wunderground to anyone that is interested, ...... - 2008-12-18

» Could you defend yourself against "winning" a MR "lottery?"

The MR "lottery" I'm envisioning is not like the million dollar lotteries you want to win; it's merely a shorthand description for the scenario described below (which, like a lottery, is exceedingly unlikely, but with potentially dramatic effects): One day MRMan drives from his home in Detroit to Toledo, OH, and flies a lucrative MR: TOL-DTW-LAX-ORD-SFO-JFK-DTW-TOL. The next day, bombs go off at Los Angeles airport, the Sears Tower in Chicago, and the NY Stock Exchange. Suspicious activity and rumors of possible narrowly-averted bombings arise in Miami, Boston, and San Francisco. (And Detroit is a city with a large muslim community). I have been thinking about this recently but I have not had a chance to ask my sifu or read any of my books. What are peoples views on applying this theory?First tell us what your definition of What "double weighing" is for you. Many see it as a 50/50 weights distribution on the feet and many others see it as something completely different. Also do a search in the archives, it is a topic that comes up often.Well I think of it as moving your weight from one leg to another, driving off one leg and landing on the other when you strike. Not sure if it meaning you should never be 50/50. » YUL-LGA (AC740) on E75 on Sat. Aug.27

I was travelling to New York City last Saturday, for the first time as E. Due to aircraft change from RJ to E75, I 've got to exprerience that new addition to the AC fleet. As an unexpected bonus, I was assigned the seat 3A in executive class. What a treat! The plane was not full I walked up and down the whole aircraft to take a look and try a hospitality cabin seat as well. It is a major improvement over RJs in terms of comfort and space. The washrooms are still on the smaller size but larger than on RJ. Also, a thin wall divider between J and Y allows more privacy. Y bulkhead (row 12) has more legroom than A319/320. Overall, it was a flight from heaven. The exceptional onboard service provided by in charge flight attendant...... - 2008-12-18

» Reports from queries or something else?

Hey all, I have a database that I built, but my knowledge is lacking. I created a table and a form for that table. I then made a qry for that table, and a report based on the query I built. I went to check it out, so I filled in the form, which saved to the table. Then previewed the report, which shows the informationt that I just put in. Problem: When added a new record on that form, the preview report only shows the first entry I made, not the second. How do I get the report to show the most recent information typed in the form? Thanks, VinceOk first thing, is the data that you just entered filtered out by your query for example If your query is just for people in the USa and the data you just entered is for a person in...... - 2008-12-18

» Decent restaurant at YYZ?

Is there any place to have a reasonably nice meal at YYZ, preferably either in Terminal 2 or 3? By reasonably nice, I mean table service and food a notch or three above Tim Horton's. (I'll have a 2.5-hr layover and luggage, so going off-airport would be more trouble than I'm willing to deal with.)Your best bet might be to go the the Sheraton that's attached to T3. They have both a coffee shop type restaurant and then a more upscale one. I've eaten there a couple of times and it's certainly a notch above THT2 Has a more casual place as well, landside across from the Body Shop. If you are airside, I believe there is an Il Fornello's as well...I agree that the Sheraton T3 restaurant is a nice oasis to get away from the airport hustle and b...... - 2008-12-18

» ONCE AGAIN! - ground in CMA

Master killer was mumbling something about ground fighting, or lack of, in sparring ;) San Shou/San Da scoring reflects traditional Chinese view on this sort of thing, STAY STANDING, most points are when they fall down, go boom and you stay standing. Thus, you can kill them if you have a weapon on you, stomp them, kick them or just run away  Of course, stuff happens, so if you fall ON TOP, you get 1 point, because you can still work from there, but it is less of an advantage In my standard San Da classes, we stop after the throw, get back up and start all over again, but I have a separate program and classes for ground fighting so my people get to try and fight from on top, and from being underneath IE, stuff happens, you...... - 2008-12-18

» Best Points Programs

Any suggestions on points programs? I saw some discussion on Gold Points and MyPoints. I currently use Nesteggz. Perhaps someone could point me to previous discussion on a comparison of programs. Thanks. If you're asking what program to credit purchases to, it's not as simple as picking a single program and sticking to it. Some programs offer very poor earning across the board (e.g. AirMilesMart, though I find them very RELIABLE). Other programs just aren't trustworthy (IMHO Goldpoints). But otherwise it's more about which program offers the best deal with the merchant you're going to buy from. You need to compare which program offers the best earning for the particular purchase you're going to make. Andrew Cram's comparison ...... - 2008-12-18

» Check-in for a mile run

I'm doing my first mile run this week to get AA plat through the challenge. My question is, can I check in for all my flights at my origin airport (I just have a two hr turn around at my destination). What do you do? My routing is AUS-DFW-ORD-SAN(two hrs) then redeye-ORD-DFW-AUS-DFW-AUS.I would give it a shot - I've never had a 2-hour turn-around before with that many segments in a day, but generally, you can check-in for all your flights the same day & they should be able to check-in you in for the return - But, they may not let you do that. Because of the number of segments, I doubt you'd be able to check-in online at all. Let us know how it goes...I did something similar earlier this year SAN-JFK-SAN with just two hours on the gr...... - 2008-12-18

Users of Yahoo Instant Messenger are under threat from a worm that hijacks their Internet Explorer homepage and leads them to a site that puts spyware on their PCs. Researchers at anti-malware firm FaceTime Security Labs, who identified the threat, say that the yhoo32.explr worm puts its own browser called Safety Browser on their PCs, the first recorded incidence of malware installing its own web browser on a PC without the user's permission. According to FaceTime researchers, because Safety Browser uses the IE icon, users can easily mistake it for Internet Explorer. Tomorrow (Friday, July 25) at 10pm Eastern, 9pm Central, The History Channel will present a "Shockwave" segment on how the "under the bridge" video of the tornado northeast of Andover came to be. I have not yet seen the final program but am hoping they include my explanations to never take shelter from a tornado under a bridge. Thanks for the heads up about that. I will have to look for it . On that day I was further West in Kansas and did not hear about any tornadoes even when driving back. Then I saw that account all over the TV. » AS: Help with Ideas to hit MVPG (7028m ex-SEA)

Hey there: I'm 7028 miles short of MVP gold. I'd like to get there since I'll take a few international trips next year, and the resulting bonus miles will clear certain award thresholds. I could do a first class haul to the east coast and back, but that'll cost me $1000. MVPG isn't worth that much. Any creative ideas to do it as cheaply as possible, but only over two separate days at the most? Also, is it true there's a 500 mile minimum earned per sector? I've ran through some itineraries. In any case do the extra 50% from FC justify the fare? I've gotten the run down to 10 cents per mile (SEA>PDX>SEA x 3 & double miles with PDX>STS>PDX x 2). I'd rather do it all in a day..possible? Onex made money on the AC deal when they sold their shares back at $16, most bought at $4 to $6. If they do go in again, they won't be shackled by rediculous pledges to make Ottawa happy. Isn't the biggest challenge facing any mayor of Newark to get rid of the intractably poor, aka the underclass? It seems that much of what drives what's wrong in Newark is due to a certain class of people living in the city. The municipality does not have the resources to solve what is really a problem that exists throughout this country. So wouldn't the city be better served if Newark gave its lawbreakers and jobless one-way tickets to some other location with a strong stipulation that they could never return to Newark?
