To Make Money Online - Do You Need a Website?

One of the first things a newcomer to Internet Marketing runs into is a flood of information. Not all of the info is what I call helpful. Especially when it comes to recruiting new affiliates.

If a newcomer is told he doesnt need a website (or at least a blog) he/she doesnt have the whole picture.

Here is the picture without a website. The newcomer finds a product they think is good and, for sake of discussion, lets say its a Clickbank product. The new person can sign up and get their nickname(sales commission code). At that point, most of the advice out there is to run an adwords campaign sending targeted traffic to the sales page (pitch page) from a link with your clickbank nickname in it.

The sales pages often appear to be written by one source because they are so similar. It must work, right? Well, sort of. A lot of these sales pages have a low conversion rate so the answer to that, for the merchant, is mass floods of traffic, sent free of cost (to the merchant) by affiliates.

Well, in theory, the new affiliate can send traffic to that sales page at a cost low enough to make a profit! That is unlikely since the people who make money that way are expert at it and newcomers are not!

Heres the math. If you are selling a product with a commission of 50 dollars you have to spend less than 50 dollars just to break even. Actually about 40 bucks due to Clickbanks fees and some slippage.

Well a lot of sales pages have a conversion rate of 1% or lower so that means you have to send 100 people to get a sale! That means you cant spend more than 40 cents on your keywords and those keywords are probably bid up higher so your ad wont show.

This is not horribly complicated but there are other ways to get traffic to a sales page that work well and cost far less.

So, to answer the question Do i need a website? I say yes, if you want options for traffic other than Google ads. How does a newcomer to Internet Marketing learn what he needs to succeed? I suggest joining one of the Online Internet Marketing Schools. In there you can learn what you need at your own pace without risking losing a bunch of money.

Thats how I started. When people ask me How can I make money online? I tell them that I learned how in school. My advice is learn the terminology, learn the techniques, and study your lessons. Now, go do your homework!
